Troopers say they seized nearly 500 grams of suspected marijuana and more than $1,200 in cash during the early-morning stop.

NEW CASTLE, Del. — Delaware State Police arrested a 22-year-old Wilmington resident on felony drug charges after a DUI checkpoint in New Castle early Thursday morning, authorities said.

On Nov. 27, 2025, troopers and partnering agencies were conducting a DUI checkpoint organized by the Office of Highway Safety on Wilmington Road near Municipal Boulevard in New Castle. At about 12:15 a.m., a Toyota Camry entered the checkpoint and troopers contacted the driver, identified as Wajahne Leggett, 22, of Wilmington.

Police said troopers saw cash and several individually packaged bags of suspected marijuana in plain view inside the vehicle, consistent with drug sales. A subsequent search of the Camry turned up 481 grams of suspected marijuana and $1,230 in suspected drug proceeds, according to authorities.

Leggett was arrested and taken to the New Castle City Police Department, where he was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (felony) and possession of a controlled substance in a tier 1 quantity (felony).

Police said Leggett was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on a $3,000 unsecured bond.
