Dover Teen Arrested For Murder Following Shooting In Capital Green

Narrative: The Dover Police Department has arrested a 17-year-old male, of Dover, on murder charges, following a shooting that occurred Wednesday morning. The investigation began at 10:26 a.m., when Dover Police Department was called for shots fired from within a residence located in the 400 block of River Road. Officers responded and located the victim, a 54-year-old male of Seaford, inside of the residence, who had sustained a gun shot wound to his upper body as a result of the shooting. Officers and emergency medical personnel rendered aid to the victim on scene until he was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus. Tragically, the 54-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital as a result of his injuries. The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notifications.

The ensuing investigation revealed that the 54-year-old victim and the suspect were involved in a verbal and physicaly altercation inside of the residence. During this altercation, the 17-year-old obtained a firearm and shot the victim. The suspect left the residence prior to Police arrival.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., the 17-year-old came to Dover Police Department to turn himself in. He was taken into custody without incident.

The 17-year-old was committed to Stevenson House Detention Center on $535,000 cash bail on the following charges:
-Murder in the First Degree
-Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
-Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited

The 17-year-old is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
