The Delaware State Police have arrested 19-year-old Shawn Roy of Wilmington, Delaware for an armed robbery and reckless endangering that occurred in Newark on July 18, 2023.
On July 18, 2023, at approximately 10:50 p.m., troopers responded to Royal Farms located at 865 Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, for a report of a shot fired. Upon arriving at the scene, Troopers located a shell casing, but were unable to locate a victim. Further investigation revealed an unknown suspect, later identified as Shawn Roy, fired a single gunshot at a 33-year-old acquaintance during an altercation in the parking lot of the Royal Farms. The victim was not injured and fled the scene in his vehicle. Roy fled the scene on foot.
On August 2, 2023, Troop 2 Robbery Detectives contacted Roy at a residence in Bear, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Roy was taken to Troop 2 and charged with the following crimes:
- Robbery First Degree (Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
- Reckless Endangering First Degree (Felony) – 2 counts
Roy was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $54,000 cash bond.
