WILMINGTON — The City will host a free Independence Day celebration on Saturday, July 5, in Rodney Square.
The festivities will include live music, cultural performances, children’s games, and food from local trucks and restaurants. The event is alcohol-free and designed to provide a safe, inclusive atmosphere for all ages. Event Allies is partnering with the City to coordinate the celebration.

Mayor John Carney is also expected to sign an executive order during the event to officially launch the Wilmington 250th Celebration, a yearlong initiative leading up to the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026. The effort will coincide with Delaware 250, a statewide campaign commemorating the state’s role in American history.
“This celebration is about honoring our city’s vibrant history and diverse communities in a way that is fun, inclusive, and meaningful,” said Mayor Carney. “And as we look ahead to America’s 250th birthday, we are proud to begin our Wilmington 250th celebration right here in Rodney Square.”
