WILMINGTON- Barbara Dommel, a patient care technician at Wilmington Hospital’s Joint Replacement Center, has been recognized for her dedication and compassion with the ChristianaCare ROSE Award.
The ROSE Award recipients are chosen through an anonymous selection process by the Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare. The award recognizes a range of non-nursing caregiving roles, including patient care technicians, medical assistants, surgical technologists, and behavioral health specialists.

Dommel was nominated by a patient recovering from knee replacement surgery, who credited her with making a significant impact on their hospital stay.
“Her professionalism, kindness, compassion, and humor made a significant difference,” the patient wrote in their nomination.
“She answered all my questions, offered words of encouragement, and continuously put a smile on my face when she came into my room to check my vitals.”
The patient praised Dommel’s efforts in creating a welcoming hospital environment.
“It is because of techs like Barb that hospitals feel more comforting, and patients feel more at ease during what is often a stressful time.”
