WILMINGTON — The annual Wilmington Flower Market is set to return to Rockford Park this Mother’s Day weekend, marking another year of tradition, community, and charitable giving across Delaware.

The event is organized by Wilmington Flower Market Inc., an all-volunteer fundraising organization that supports children’s charities across Delaware. While well-known to many residents as an annual community event, it also reflects months of behind-the-scenes planning and volunteer coordination.

The Flower Market offers a festive atmosphere complete with carnival rides, games, and a wide variety of plants and flowers for sale. Attendees can browse crafts and goods from local merchants, enjoy a broad selection of food vendors, and take in live music performances on the WDEL stage. Appearances from local celebrities, including Miss Delaware, are also a highlight of the weekend.

This year’s market will take place Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Founded in 1921 by Mrs. A. Felix DuPont, the Wilmington Flower Market has become one of Delaware’s longest-running service organizations. While the three-day event is the most visible aspect of the Flower Market’s efforts, it is far from the only fundraising initiative. Additional events, such as an advertising supplement, art auction, and fashion show, have become significant sources of funding over the years.

To date, the Flower Market has awarded more than $6 million to children’s charities in the state.
