‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

Thank you for letting us tell your stories, Delaware.

’Twas the night before Christmas across the First State,
A few journalists still working, though the hour grew late.
They crafted headlines with thoughtful care,
Finishing articles they were happy to share.

From Newark to Wilmington and old New Castle’s Green,
They had followed angles as a reporting team.
From Dover’s broad stretches to the curve of the bay,
They had tracked every lead throughout the days.

Across towns and counties the year’s stories grew,
With acts of compassion and traditions renewed.
Parades and performances, milestones to cheer,
The voices of neighbors that shaped the year.

Businesses celebrated triumphs and starts,
Libraries and nonprofits opened their hearts.
Families gave deeply, volunteers led the way,
And communities strengthened day after day.

Now Rehoboth lay quiet, the Bandstand at rest,
Lewes’ windows shimmered, holiday dressed.
Cape Henlopen breezes turned colder and clear,
As beach towns settled at the close of the year.

Through Brandywine Valley where Christmas winds blow,
Greenville kept shining with a welcoming glow.
Hockessin’s houses trimmed in ribbons and pine
Stood peaceful beneath the December moonshine.

In Middletown storefronts glimmered at night,
Lanterns and candles casting warm light.
Smyrna’s bright corners felt merry and fair,
While Milford’s calm river held reflections of care.

Three counties, one mission – to share points of view,
And shine a warm light upon all of you.
As Delawareans settled in for a long cozy rest,
Delaware Live logged off and wished everyone their best.

They whispered to readers, clear, warm, and bright,
“Merry Christmas, First State, and to all a good night.”
