The season of giving is underway in Bear, where Peoples Plaza will host its annual Turkeython on Saturday, November 22, from 10 a.m. to noon in front of Safeway. The popular shopping center at 2750 Wrangle Hill Road will once again transform its parking lot into a community drop-off site for holiday donations benefiting the Food Bank of Delaware.

Organized by the Peoples Plaza Merchants Association, the event invites shoppers and neighbors to bring frozen turkeys or hams, along with nonperishable foods that help create a complete Thanksgiving meal. Suggested items include applesauce, cranberry sauce, oatmeal, canned vegetables, boxed sides such as stuffing and mashed potatoes, rice, macaroni and cheese, hearty soups, pudding mix, canned pumpkin, graham cracker pie crusts, and even aluminum turkey pans.

Hot beverages and pantry staples are welcome too, from coffee and tea bags to hot chocolate and evaporated milk. Each donation helps the Food Bank of Delaware provide nutritious, comforting meals to families throughout the state who might otherwise go without.

For the Merchants Association, the Turkeython has become a cherished local tradition and a way for businesses and residents to come together for a shared cause. The event highlights how the Bear community consistently steps up to support its neighbors, especially during the holiday season.

The Food Bank of Delaware continues to see high demand for assistance as grocery prices remain elevated. Events like the Turkeython ensure shelves stay stocked and holiday tables stay full. With volunteers and donors pitching in, the impact extends far beyond the plaza’s parking lot.

Peoples Plaza, a mainstay in the Bear area for decades, regularly hosts community-focused events such as car shows, family festivals, and its upcoming Christmas Celebration on December 6. The Turkeython kicks off the holiday season by emphasizing gratitude and connection – values that have always defined this New Castle County hub.

Whether a donor brings a turkey, a box of stuffing, or a single can of green beans, every contribution matters. It’s a simple act of kindness that helps another family enjoy a warm meal and a brighter Thanksgiving.

Peoples Plaza encourages everyone to stop by on November 22, drop off a donation, and help the Food Bank of Delaware spread comfort and cheer across the state this holiday season.
