Tony-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen to premiere in Wilmington

WILMINGTON The national tour of Dear Evan Hansen, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical, will be presented at The Playhouse on Rodney Square from April 11 to 13, 2025. The production is being presented by The Grand as part of the Broadway in Wilmington series. 

Dear Evan Hansen opened on Broadway in December 2016 and received six Tony Awards in 2017, including Best Musical. The show ran on Broadway until 2022 and completed a North American tour in 2023 after visiting more than 100 cities.

The musical follows Evan Hansen, a high school student dealing with social anxiety and isolation. A misunderstanding involving a classmate’s death leads him into an unexpected chain of events. The story examines themes related to mental health, identity, and the influence of social media.

The Wilmington cast includes Michael Fabisch as Evan Hansen, Hatty Ryan King as Zoe Murphy, Bre Cade as Heidi Hansen, Caitlin Sams as Cynthia Murphy, Alex Pharo as Connor Murphy, Jeff Brooks as Larry Murphy, Gabriel Vernon Nunag as Jared Kleinman, and Makena Jackson as Alana Beck. Understudies include Michael Perez (Evan alternate), Monica Blume, Julianna Braga, and Blake Ehrlichman.

The show features music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with a book by Steven Levenson. Scenic design is by David Korins, projections by Peter Nigrini, costumes by Emily Rebholz, lighting by Japhy Weideman, and sound by Nevin Steinberg. Music supervision and orchestrations are by Alex Lacamoire. Direction restaging is by Danny Sharron, and choreography restaging is by Mark Myars. Casting is by Murnane Casting.

Dear Evan Hansen is produced by Crossroads Live North America and is licensed through Music Theatre International.
