WILMINGTON — Makayla Sullivan hit a last-second shot in overtime to help the St. Elizabeth Vikings beat Padua on the road by a 42-41 score in the teams’ second meeting of the year.
Sullivan found herself open for a last-second layup as she rebounded a missed shot by teammate Skylar Bolden. She came down with the rebound and immediately went right back up for the layup in the last second of the game to seal the victory.
After the game, Sullivan told us, “My teammate missed, and the ball was on my side, so I grabbed it and went back up, and it went in.”
The Vikings beat the Pandas 56-50 at home in the St E Center on Dec. 10 in their first meeting this season.
Asked about the plan entering overtime, Sullivan said, “Just keep playing defense. Our defense really brought us together, and our defense led to offense.”
Taniyah Reese led the Vikings in scoring with 11 points. Sullivan, Bolden, and ZaMylah Seda-Owen each added seven points.
