State Police Arrest Man for Two Armed Robberies

The Delaware State Police have arrested 27-year-old Anton Newkirk of New Castle, Delaware for committing two recent armed robberies at two different Wawa stores in New Castle County.

On June 12, 2023, at approximately 2:19 a.m., troopers responded to the Wawa located at 1750 Capitol Trail in Newark for an armed robbery, where an unknown black male displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the employees. On June 19, 2023, at approximately 2:26 a.m., troopers responded to the Wawa located at 4555 Linden Hill Road in Wilmington for a similar armed robbery, where an unknown black male displayed a handgun and demanded cash.

Detectives from the Troop 2 Robbery Unit began investigating both cases and developed Anton Newkirk as a suspect. On June 21, 2023, at approximately 11:15 a.m., detectives located Newkirk’s car as it pulled into the parking lot of Christiana Hospital. Troopers stopped the car and Newkirk was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

Newkirk was taken to Troop 2 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Robbery First Degree (Felony) – 6 counts
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony) – 2 counts
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony) – 2 counts

Newkirk was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $520,000 cash bond.
