Newark Police are warning motorists that the truck moving an Elkton tree to New York’s Rockefeller Center may cause traffic delays in the university town about 1 p.m.

The large vehicle may cause temporary road closures and traffic delays, a press release said. The exact route will be:

  • Southbound New London Road (Route 896) from the Maryland state line to West Cleveland Avenue
  • Eastbound on West Cleveland Avenue to East Cleveland Avenue to Capitol Trail (Route 2)
  • Westbound on Capitol Trail to Ogletown Road (Route 273)
  • Eastbound on Ogletown Road towards Interstate 95

The public is invited to watch the tree pass and to take photographs, but they are asked to remain on sidewalks and out of the roadway.

The truck will be escorted by officers on motorcycles and in police cars.

At some points on the route, traffic may be temporarily stopped to allow safe passage and turning of the truck.

“DO NOT attempt to pass the truck as it travels along the route,” police warn.
