Sporting an 11-4 record and huge wins last week over Saint Mark’s and Ursuline last week, the Padua Pandas will roll into the DIAA state volleyball tournament with the top seed.

The tournament starts Wednesday.  The top eight seeds will have a first-round bye and host second-round matches on Friday or Saturday.

The Pandas earned the top seed by playing eight of its 15 matches against teams with a .700 win percentage and better, receiving bonus points that propelled them to the top spot.  The Ursuline Raiders earned the second seed also with a 11-4 record.  Delaware Live’s top-ranked team, Tower Hill, which finished 14-1 and beat Padua in the regular season two weeks ago, earned the third seed.  Wilmington Charter, Saint Mark’s, Newark Charter, DMA, and Caravel made the list of teams with first-round byes.

The first round kicks off with four matches on Wednesday night, including a fast-turnaround rematch of Blue Hen champions as Flight B winner Dickinson travels to Flight A winner Appoquinimink.  These teams met Monday at Dickinson to determine the Blue Hen champion (results were not available on the schools’ websites as we published Tuesday afternoon).

The other four first-round matches are on Thursday at 6 pm at the higher seeds.  A pair of Diamond State teams meet in Claymont as Archmere hosts Conrad.  Archmere traveled to and swept Conrad on October 11. The winner advances to play another conference foe in Newark Charter.

Second-round games are on Friday and Saturday at the higher seeds.  The quarterfinals are on Wednesday, November 6th, at sites and times to be determined.  The semifinals will be on Monday, November 11 at the Bob Carpenter Center.  The championship will be determined on Thursday Nov. 14 at 6 p.m, also at the Bob.
