WILMINGTON — The New York Tenors will bring their “Magic of Christmas” concert to St. Mark’s High School on Saturday, offering Delaware families a festive afternoon of music while raising funds for one of the region’s most essential human-service providers: Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington.
The concert, set for 2 p.m., features the celebrated trio of Daniel Rodríguez, Andy Cooney, and Christopher Macchio, whose blend of operatic talent, Irish charm and classical crossover style has earned them a national following. Comedian Chris Monty will appear as a special guest.
But for Delaware audiences, the performance carries added meaning. All proceeds support Catholic Charities, an organization that quietly anchors the state’s social-safety net—providing food, housing, counseling, emergency assistance and energy support to more than 100,000 households each year.
“This concert is one of the most joyful ways our community comes together to support families who are struggling,” said Sheila McGirl, director of development and outreach for Catholic Charities. “Every ticket sold helps someone keep the heat on, avoid homelessness, put food on the table, or receive critical counseling. It truly reflects the spirit of the season.”
A concert with purpose
McGirl said December is traditionally one of the busiest times of year for Catholic Charities, as rising costs place additional strain on low-income households. The holiday concert not only raises money, she said, but also gives residents a clearer window into the scale of need across Delaware.
Catholic Charities has served Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore for nearly 190 years, offering support to anyone in need—regardless of faith, income or background. Its programs include:
-
Basic needs services: food pantries, financial aid and the Seton Thrift Center.
-
Housing & shelter: Bayard House for pregnant women, Casa San Francisco emergency shelter, Bethany House, and senior housing at Marydale Retirement Village.
-
Behavioral health: mental-health counseling, case management and addiction recovery support.
-
Energy assistance: the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), helping thousands maintain heat through the winter.
-
Family support: pregnancy programs, parenting education and food programs for children and seniors.

A holiday outing with community impact
McGirl said the concert is one of the few events where entertainment and philanthropy blend seamlessly. “When people enjoy an incredible performance and know they’re directly helping their neighbors, it creates something special,” McGirl said. “The New York Tenors bring joy to the stage, and that joy quickly becomes hope for the families we serve.”
For Catholic Charities, the annual holiday concert is more than a fundraiser. It is a reminder, McGirl added, that Delaware’s most vulnerable families rely on the compassion of the wider community—especially during the winter months.
