Delaware drivers can now support animal welfare while on the road, thanks to a newly released specialty license plate unveiled by the state’s Office of Animal Welfare (OAW).

The Animal Welfare License Plate, now available through the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), is designed to raise funds for initiatives that promote the health and safety of companion animals throughout the state.

Featuring vibrant illustrations of animals set against a scenic backdrop, the plate allows residents to show their support for animal welfare in a visible and meaningful way.

“This initiative not only shows OAW’s commitment to animal welfare but also provides a unique way for residents to drive with a purpose and support the cause,” said Christina Motoyoshi, director of OAW. “We are looking forward to seeing the community embrace this opportunity to make a difference.”

The plate costs $50, with $35 from each sale directed to the State Spay Neuter Fund.

The fund supports efforts to reduce animal homelessness by making spay and neuter services more accessible.

“Spaying and neutering are the most effective and humane ways to control pet populations, but the services can be out of reach for some pet owners,” said Joanna Miller, deputy director of OAW. “Revenue is used to provide spay and neuter surgeries for low-income pet owners, community cat programs, and to supplement spay and neuter funds for Delaware shelters and rescues.”

Revenue from the plates helps provide surgeries for low-income pet owners, supports community cat initiatives, and assists shelters and rescues with their spay and neuter programs.

The plate can be ordered online here or by mail using an application form.

There’s no need to wait for a vehicle registration renewal—plates can be purchased at any time.
