NEW CASTLE- New Castle County has earned national recognition as one of HGTV’s 50 Most Charming Small Towns in America. 

The article highlights the town’s rich history, picturesque streets, and vibrant attractions, drawing attention to its colonial past. 

HGTV selects its list of the most charming small towns based on a variety of factors that showcase the heart and soul of the community. The network looks for a town’s local character, featuring quaint shops, family-owned businesses, and must-visit restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. A strong sense of history, natural beauty, and a welcoming atmosphere play roles in the selection process as well.

The Read House & Gardens, located at 42 The Strand, the historic house museum showcases early American refinement. Built between 1797 and 1804 for George Read Jr., it was the largest and most refined residence in Delaware at the time. Standing as a distinguished example of high-style Federal period architecture.

Battery Park resides along the Delaware River. The Battery Park Trail includes a paved path ideal for walking, hiking, and biking along the waterfront, with scenic views of the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

The Dutch House is a late 17th-century home that dates back to the colonial era. Recognized as one of the oldest surviving homes in the state, it offers a glimpse into early American architecture. 

Immanuel on the Green, a historic church, is a distinguished landmark within the Historic District. This site serves as both a cherished place of worship and a popular tourist attraction, representing New Castle’s colonial history.
