WILMINGTON — A 94-year-old New Castle County resident is recovering after a fall left him stranded on his front porch overnight—an incident that may have ended differently without the county’s Senior Roll Call Lifeline program.
According to New Castle County Police, the man, who lives on North Star Road, did not answer his routine Senior Roll Call check-in call on the morning of Thursday, June 26. After volunteers were unable to reach him or his emergency contact, they followed established protocol and requested a welfare check.

Responding officers found the man lying on his porch. He had fallen around midnight and spent several hours on the concrete before help arrived. Police administered aid at the scene, and he was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. He was later released.
The man later left a voicemail for the police department and volunteers, expressing his gratitude and crediting the program with saving his life.
The Senior Roll Call Lifeline, operated by the New Castle County Division of Police since 1995, provides free daily wellness calls to senior citizens and disabled residents. If a participant does not respond to several attempts, officers are sent to their home to ensure their safety.
County police emphasized the program’s ongoing impact in preventing tragedies for vulnerable residents. The service remains free and available to all eligible residents in New Castle County.
