WILMINGTON—Governor Matt Meyer announced a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing surging energy costs in Delaware.

In recent months, Delmarva Power customers have faced severe bill increases, this strategy comes in to try to protect and provide immediate relief.

Meyer’s plan includes both immediate actions and long-term legislative solutions designed for fair and affordable energy pricing across the state.

The governor emphasized that Delaware’s energy system should serve consumers, not just utility companies.

“Too many Delaware families opened their energy bills this winter and saw outrageous rate hikes with little explanation,Meyer said in the statement.

That’s unacceptable. No one should be forced to decide between heating their home and paying for groceries,” he stated.

Meyer stated renewable energy policies are not to blame for the high costs, instead that diversifying energy sources could help drive prices down. He also criticized the ability of utility companies to pass on unnecessary costs to consumers with minimal oversight.

“The system is broken when utility companies can pass unnecessary costs onto consumers with little accountability,” said Meyer.

David Stevenson, Director of Center for Energy & Environmental Policy at the Caesar Rodney Institute, supports Meyer’s recent energy cost initiatives.

“The Caesar Rodney Institute is pleased to see Governor Meyer’s interest in revising energy policy,” Stevenson said in an email.

“We encourage his support of Senate bills 64 and 65 which attempt to end a hidden energy tax, or at least redirect the funds as rebates on electric bills as is done in New Hampshire.”

The Meyer administration is working alongside legislators, consumer advocates, and energy regulators to implement both short-term relief measures and long-term reforms. More details on the proposed legislative efforts and regulatory changes are expected in the coming weeks.
