Caravel keeps on winning to hold onto the top spot in our poll but there is some movement for other teams. The weather has improved a little as most teams start playing games postponed from earlier in the season.Â
No. 1 Caravel (6-0) The Buccaneers picked up 3 wins last week against last yearâs finalist Indian River (11-nothing), No. 8 Cape Henlopen (5-nothing), and No. 10 DMA (13-1). Kendall Browne doubled, tripled, and homered vs IR as she came up a single shy of hitting for the cycle. Both Kasey Xenidis and Leah Richardson collected 2 hits in the win over DMA. Cape Henlopen battled the Buccaneers to a scoreless tie until Caravel plated 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th. The Bucs have one game scheduled this week against Rising Sun (MD) Monday night.Â
No. 2 Sussex Central (5-1) The Golden Knights defeated Delmar 5-to-nothing, and lost (for the 1st time this season) to Stephen Decatur (MD) 6-5. In the loss to Decatur, Takyla Davis and Lauren Myers both went âyardâ as the âKnights rally came up short. Central will take on No. 6 Lake Forest, Dover, and new No. 4 Laurel this week.
No. 3 Appo (4-0) The Jags get back onto the field with 3 games this week against Delmarva Christian, Delcastle, and Charter of Wilmington.Â
No. 4 Laurel (5-1) The Bulldogs are on a 4-game win streak after knocking St Marks from the ranks of the unbeaten Saturday 4-2. Bailey Ullman homered and tripled, while sister Ashlyn added two hits in the game versus the Spartans. Kylee Hill recorded 8 strikeouts and allowed just 3 hits to get the win. Laurel faces Caesar Rodney, Delmar, and No. 2 Sussex Central this week.
No. 5 St Marks (6-1) The Spartans suffered their first loss of the season and will attempt to get back in the win column facing Archmere and #6 Lake Forest this week at home. The âbattle of the Spartansâ is scheduled for 1:00 Saturday.Â
No. 6 Lake Forest (7-0) Lake edged No. 7 Polytech in 8 innings 3-2 Thursday, and picked up another close win earlier last week 2-1 against Caesar Rodney. A key Henlopen matchup takes place Tuesday in Georgetown as the Spartans travel to Georgetown to take on No. No. 2 Sussex Central.Â
No. 7 Polytech (4-2) Â The Panthers hold onto the 7th position in our poll after the âtoughâ loss to Lake. Polytech has games scheduled against ECHS, Smyrna, and RLCA this week.Â
No. 8 DMA (3-2) Only losses are to No. 4 Laurel and No. 1 Caravel. Key win over Conrad moves the Seahawks up from the No. 10 spot.
No. 9 Indian River (4-3) The Indians moved into the Top 10 for the first time this season by virtue of a 9-8 victory over Cape. The 3 losses are to No. 1 Caravel, No. 4 Laurel and No. 5 St Marks. A key matchup at Smyrna takes place Monday.
No. 10 Cape (3-2) The Vikings gave #1 Caravel a battle Saturday as the game was scoreless through 5 innings. The Bucs rallied for a 5-spot in the 6th to get the win. The âcloseâ loss to Indian River drops Cape to No. 10. Â
Teams on our radar and hoping to improve this week are Smyrna (3-3), Conrad (4-2), and Caesar Rodney (2-2).
