WILMINGTON— Older homeowners in Wilmington are getting a chance to address critical home repairs through the city’s Senior Home Repair Lottery, which helps qualifying residents fix issues such as roofing, plumbing, and electrical problems.
Mayor John Carney helped kick off the June 4 drawing, underscoring the importance of secure housing for the city’s aging population.
“A safe and stable home is more than just a place to live,” said Carney. “It’s peace of mind, it’s dignity, and it’s the heart of every strong neighborhood here in our city.”
The lottery offers eligible senior homeowners financial assistance for essential home repairs. The program is a collaboration between the City of Wilmington and Habitat for Humanity and is designed to help older residents maintain their homes and remain in the communities they’ve long contributed to.

“This program helps eligible seniors make critical home repairs, enabling them to age in place,” Carney said. “Whether it’s fixing roof, electrical or plumbing issues, we’re here to support neighbors who’ve given so much to our city.”
To qualify, applicants must be at least 65 years old, own their home within Wilmington city limits, and have a household income at or below 100% of the area median income. They also must not have received assistance from Habitat for Humanity in the past three years.
Applicants from the previous round in December 2024 who were not selected were automatically entered into the latest drawing. Those chosen will be contacted by city officials, while others may be referred to additional support services.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to improve housing stability and preserve neighborhoods by addressing long-standing maintenance needs among Wilmington’s senior population.
