High School Volleyball Post Season Tournament Round-up

The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) high school volleyball tournament kicked off on October 29. Let’s catch you up on the action.

Round One:

No. 16 Saint Marks defeated No. 17 Indian River, 3-0: The Spartans held Indian River under ten points in all three sets.

No. 9 Cape Henlopen defeated No. 24 Delaware Military Academy, 3-0: All three sets were decided by three points or less.

No. 20 Ursuline defeated No. 13 Appoquinimink, 3-2: Four Raiders recorded double-digit kills in round one’s only upset.

No. 12 MOT Charter defeated No. 21 Conrad, 3-0: The Mustangs earned their sixth sweep of the season in their round one victory.

No. 15 Concord defeated No. 18 Sussex Academy, 3-1: Junior Lucy Gabrysh and senior Maeve Teaney combined for 24 kills in the victory.

No. 10 Middletown defeated No. 23 Mount Pleasant, 3-0: The Cavaliers earned their second sweep against Mount Pleasant this season to advance.

No. 14 Padua defeated No. 19 Wilmington Christian, 3-0: The Pandas recorded 13 aces in their round one victory.

No. 11 Dover defeated No. 22 Sanford, 3-1: Four Senators recorded double digit kills to advance to round two.

Round Two:

No. 16 Saint Marks defeated No. 1 Caesar Rodney, 3-0: The Spartans recorded their fourth sweep in their last five games.

No. 8 Smyrna defeated No. 9 Cape Henlopen, 3-1: The Eagles earned their first win of the postseason behind a 25 kill effort from junior Madisson Pierce.

No. 4 Caravel defeated No. 20 Ursuline, 3-0: Caravel senior Abigail Turner led all players with 14 kills, leading the Buccaneers to their first win of the tournament. 

No. 12 MOT Charter defeated No. 5 Sussex Central, 3-2: The Mustangs were one of two teams to upset the higher seed in round two. 

No. 2 Archmere defeated No. 15 Concord, 3-0: Four different Archmere players recorded multiple kills to advance to the quarterfinals. 

No. 7 Tower Hill defeated No. 10 Middletown, 3-0: Junior Sydney Fischer led the way with 23 kills in Tower Hill’s win.

No. 3 Newark Charter defeated No. 14 Padua, 3-0: The Patriots earned their first victory of the postseason against a Padua team that defeated them in five sets during the regular season.

No. 6 Lake Forest defeated No. 11 Dover, 3-0: The Spartans earned their first postseason victory as well as increased their winning streak to five games.

Quarterfinal Matchups:

No. 16 Saint Marks vs No. 8 Smyrna

No. 4 Caravel vs No. 12 MOT Charter

No. 2 Archmere vs No. 7 Tower Hill

No. 3 Newark Charter vs No. 6 Lake Forest

These games will be played on Tuesday, October 4, at the home court of the higher seed.
