More Than a Shop: A Mission Born of Hope

Great Stuff Savvy Resale & Home is not your typical resale shop. Since its founding, it has been a dedicated engine for hope, created with one singular, vital purpose: to provide year-round financial stability for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC). Each piece of quality clothing, every home accent, and all delightful accessories sold provide crucial, steady funding for DBCC’s statewide programs—from free mammogram screenings to compassionate support for breast cancer survivors statewide.

Over the last 15 years, the community’s generous spirit allowed the mission to grow, expanding briefly to two locations before consolidating back into one powerful retail hub. Much like its parent organization, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, dedicated to fighting breast cancer, Great Stuff has had its own battles.

The Pandemic’s Shadow and the Community’s Light

In 2020, the unforeseen challenges of the global pandemic hit the retail world hard, and Great Stuff was no exception. Faced with strict regulations and prolonged government-required closures, a painful decision was made to announce the shop’s permanent closure. It felt like the end of a cherished era and a critical loss for DBCC’s funding stream.

But this is where the true love story begins.

The news of the shop’s impending closure announced back in May of 2020 triggered an immediate and powerful resurrection. Great Stuff volunteers, loyal patrons, and community advocates rallied instantly, refusing to let this vital mission-driven enterprise fade away. Their outpouring of support, donations, passionate advocacy, and renewed commitment—rekindled a light of hope that kept the doors open. The community made it clear: Great Stuff is essential, not just for the funds it generated, but for the hope and connection it provides.

Five Years Later: A Double Dose of Hope

Today, thanks to that unwavering community commitment, that flicker of hope is a brilliant flame. Five years after facing closure, Great Stuff is celebrating its most ambitious expansion yet, moving into the adjacent retail space to effectively double its size!

This expansion is a direct testament to the community’s trust and generosity. The new, larger space means even more room for the beautiful, high-quality, gently used goods donated by friends and neighbors, which in turn fuels even more crucial Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) funds for programs that save lives.

Beyond the retail exchange, Great Stuff is a haven. It’s a place where volunteers, some of them survivors themselves, devote their time, find healing through giving back, help customers look and feel their best, and promote sustainable, meaningful shopping. It is a special place where connections are made, and every purchase truly makes a difference.
