And the good news keeps coming.

On Friday, 51 people were hospitalized in Delaware because of COVID-19. And only 48 new cases were reported on a seven-day average.

The numbers illustrate the decline in the number of new cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

As of Thursday, a state Division of Public Health press release said, there have been 109,005 positive cases of COVID-19, and the seven-day average of new positive cases decreased to 48.4 as of Thursday. The seven-day average for positive tests was 2.0%, a drop from 2.7% the week before.

A total of 1,674 Delawareans have died from COVID-19, with 14 additional deaths added in the last week.

DE Wins! update

The state has contacted the first winners in the DE Wins! Raffle, which rewards people who have been vaccinated recently. Prizes drawn Monday were $5,000, as well as two annual passes to a Delaware State Park, and a Luxury Suite Package for the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The state is waiting for winners to give permission for their names to be shared. They do not have to reveal who they are.

On Friday, another drawing was held for $5,000 and Firefly tickets.

At the end of the month, the state will give away $302,000 and two low-digit car tags, drawing from a pool of everyone who has been vaccinated in Delaware and is in the state’s DelVax system.

Variant update

The United Kingdom variant has now accounted for 850 cases in Delaware in random testing by the state Public Health Laboratory. There are more because the state lab has only tested 2,915 specimens in total and 182 within the past week.

The other variant with cases in the three digits is the New York B.1.526.

While national media reports say the Nepal variant has been showing up around the world, it has not been seen in Delaware.

Public Health officials urge people to be vaccinated because the vaccines are said to be effective against these variants already circulating in the state.

Vaccination update

As of Friday morning, a total of 927,661 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been given in Delaware.

With 392,753 Delawareans fully vaccinated, there been 344 breakthrough cases of COVID-19, less than one-tenth of 1%. Fifteen of the reported breakthrough cases involved hospitalization and  four resulted in death.

Where to be vaccinated

In addition to pharmacies and hospitals, the state now details its vaccine locations.
