Ex-Tower Hill employee William Ushler to face 9 years in prison.
Ousted Tower Hill School employee William Ushler has been sentenced to nine years in prison for possession of child pornography, followed by 10 years of probation.
Ushler will be subject to a mandatory sex offender registration after he’s released from jail.
The 54-year-old, who was the director of upper school admissions at Tower Hill, was fired after being indicted and arrested on five counts of child pornography in July 2022.
His crimes were discovered through an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Ushler was charged last year with seven felony charges relating to child pornography and sexual solicitation of children.
He pleaded guilty to one count of dealing in child pornography (a Class B violent felony) and four counts of xexual solicitation of a child (a Class C violent felony). He faced a minimum of two years in prison but prosecutors wanted 15 years.
Delaware has no information that indicates the five known victims are Tower Hill students or Delaware residents, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.
“Nothing matters more than protecting our kids,” said Attorney General Kathy Jenningg in the release. “This is a significant sentence that should send a loud message to child predators: we will find you.”
Just weeks after the news of Ushler’s arrest, three bills were filed, and eventually signed into law, that aim to protect students and other children from sexual predators.
