Mark Mumford, Chief Executive, Nemours Will Serve in Leadership Role

Wilmington, DE – Mark Mumford, Executive Vice President, Chief Executive, Nemours Children’s Health, Delaware Valley, will serve as Chair of the Wilmington Heart Walk 2022. The Heart Walk will be held on the Riverfront in Wilmington on Sunday, October 9 and will support the American Heart Association, whose mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.

“I am truly honored to serve as Chair of the Wilmington Heart Walk 2022. I have a strong personal commitment to the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association, in honor of my wonderful daughter, who is an inspiring survivor of a congenital heart defect. Nemours Children’s Health is honored to support the Heart Walk to demonstrate our significant leadership and commitment to heart and brain health in our community,” Mr. Mumford said.

“We are thrilled to have Mark Mumford serve as the Chair of the 2022 Wilmington Heart Walk,” said David Morris, Executive Director, American Heart Association in Delaware. “Mark is a highly-acclaimed leader who brings to this role a passion for fighting heart disease and stroke and a deep commitment to serving our community. As chief executive of Nemours Children’s, Mr. Mumford is leading the way in transformational care for children in our community.”
The Wilmington Heart Walk is an opportunity for participants to walk in honor of those who suffer from heart disease and to raise funds for the advancement of research initiatives and community education programs. Heart disease is our nation’s #1 cause of death, claiming nearly a million American lives a year, more than all forms of cancer combined. Stroke is the #5 cause of death in the US, and the #4 cause of death in DE, and the leading cause of long-term disability.

Mr. Mumford joined Nemours in 2020. He is an accomplished leader with 30 years of experience helping complex organizations achieve strategic and operational objectives. Prior to joining Nemours, Mark served as the Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Throughout his career, Mark has held executive financial positions with highly recognized corporations — P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and PetSmart. Mr. Mumford received his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University.

The 2022 Wilmington Heart Walk will begin at Tubman Garrett Park on the Riverfront. The Heart Walk will feature a 3.1 mile walk/run along the riverfront and important information on heart health and stroke prevention, sponsor tables and giveaways, healthy fruit and snacks, and entertainment. This event will take all precautions and measures to adhere to current Delaware state COVID-19 regulations.
