After winning an unprecedented third straight National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 19 Division II Softball Championship and NJCAA Northeast District Softball Championship, eight Delaware Technical Community College softball players received NJCAA Region 19 All-Region honors.
Sophomore pitcher Carly Collins led the way by being named NJCAA Region 19 Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Region. Joining her on the first team are fellow sophomores Macey Myers, infield; Kandice Schlabach, outfield; Logan Walls, infield; Jada Courtney, infield; and Kylie Kruger, utility. Sophomore outfielder Megan Sterling and freshman infielder Camryn Wingate were named to the second team.
“All of them had tremendous seasons and did what they needed to do and what they were capable of doing to get noticed by the other teams in our region,” Head Coach Guy Wilkins said. “They helped lead us to the success we had as a team and they deserve this recognition.”
Due to their freshman season starting during the COVID-19 pandemic, Collins, Myers, Walls, and Courtney all earned a third year of eligibility.
Collins had an outstanding season for Delaware Tech, finishing with a 14-4 record, 98 strikeouts, and a 2.76 ERA. With 26 wins in two seasons, Collins is the second-winningest pitcher in the past 10 seasons of the program.
Myers rounded out her Delaware Tech career with another outstanding statistical season. She finished with 66 hits, 67 RBI, 10 home runs, and a .475 batting average. This season, Myers became the first player in program history to record 100 career hits, 100 career RBI, and 25 career home runs, finishing her career with 165 hits, 171 RBI, and 25 home runs with an overall .477 batting average.
In her true second season, Kruger remained a consistent player at the plate and in the field, finishing with 58 hits, 28 RBI, and a .420 batting average. Kruger became the second-fastest player in program history to record 100 career hits, doing so in 71 games and finishing with 112 career hits.
Also in her true second season, Schlabach brought the power to Delaware Tech’s lineup, recording 56 hits, 59 RBI, and 17 home runs with a .424 batting average. Schlabach became the first Delaware Tech baseball or softball player to record 25 career home runs, finishing with 27 in two seasons. She also became the fourth-fastest player to record 100 career hits, finishing with exactly 100.
Walls served as an excellent leadoff hitter for the team, finishing with 53 hits, 32 RBI, and a .431 batting average. She also proved to be a patient batter, drawing 24 walks, and became the third-fastest player to record 100 career hits, finishing with 131.
Courtney improved in every aspect of her game, finishing the year with the most hits (43), most RBI (33), and most home runs (six) of her three-year career, while also recording her best batting average (.364).
Sterling, in her first season at Delaware Tech, finished with 50 hits, 39 RBI, and seven home runs while batting .472, second-best on the team this season.
Wingate, the lone freshman receiving post-season accolades, had a solid start to her collegiate career. Playing in 34 games, she recorded 31 hits, 20 RBI, and added her first collegiate home run, while batting .383.
This year’s team finished with a 32-9-1 record.
