NEW CASTLE — The Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) will host its fourth annual World Environment Day celebration on Thursday, June 5, at Veterans Memorial Park near the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

The free community event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature educational exhibits, giveaway items, and static displays.

This year’s theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution,” highlights the global challenge of plastic waste and its widespread effects on ecosystems and human health.

“Our World Environment Day celebration continues to expand programming and exhibits to positively impact our environment and share our passion with everyone,” said Silvana Dominioni, Director of the DRBA Environmental, Health and Safety Department.

The event will feature participation from government regulators, environmental organizations, and company representatives, offering information on topics such as recycling, air quality, food waste, plastic bag bans, renewable energy, greener products, watersheds, endangered species, oil spill cleanup, and climate change.

“We’re really excited to welcome the environmental community, STEM students and our employees to celebrate our planet. Come out and join us in a relaxed atmosphere to learn and celebrate our environment,” said Dominioni.

Attendees can also visit the Sustainably Safe booth to sample eco-friendly products made with minimal ingredients, participate in raffles, and take photos at a themed selfie station.
