A trio of Dover women is celebrating a life-changing win after claiming a $1 million top prize from the Delaware Lottery’s 50th Anniversary Instant Game — the first such prize awarded since the game launched.
The three women, who have chosen to remain anonymous, purchased the lucky ticket at Royal Farms #151 in Dover.
According to lottery officials, they have been playing the 50th Anniversary game regularly over the past few months, typically buying three tickets at a time.
The timing of the win couldn’t have been better.
The group had recently bought a home together and now plans to use their winnings to pay off the mortgage.

Out of privacy concerns, the names of the winners have not been published.
There was also a personal twist to the win.
The ticket that hit the jackpot bore the number 21 — which was also the winning number and happens to be the birthday of one of the winners. “As soon as I saw the number, I just had a feeling,” she said.
They verified the prize using the Delaware Lottery’s mobile app before officially claiming their winnings at Lottery Headquarters on June 18.
“This win is special for so many reasons – it’s our first $1 million prize from the 50th Anniversary game, and it’s going to make a meaningful impact in these players’ lives,” said Helene Keeley, director of the Delaware Lottery. “We’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone with them and can’t wait to see more big winners as this game continues.”
The 50th Anniversary Instant Game still has one more $1 million top prize available, along with multiple other prize levels.
Since its inception in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $6 billion to the state’s General Fund, helping support a variety of public services.
