Delaware State Police Investigating Single Vehicle Fatal Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Newark area last night.

On March 4, 2023, at approximately 10:26 p.m., a 2014 white Dodge Journey was traveling northbound on Interstate 95, south of the service plaza. For unknown reasons, the Dodge exited the roadway off the right shoulder and overturned.

The 24-year-old male operator from Wilmington was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the collision is still being determined. Possible charges are pending upon determination.

There were two passengers in the Dodge, a 23-year-old female and a 30-year-old female from Wilmington, DE. The 23-year-old female was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The 30-year-old female was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

Interstate 95 northbound was closed for approximately 2 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.
