WILMINGTON–This weekend, runners from across the country and beyond will gather at Tubman-Garrett Park in Wilmington, to participate in the 21st annual Delaware Running Festival. The event will feature four races: a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10K, and a 5K.
The festival will kick off at 7:00 AM on Sunday, April 6, with the marathon, half marathon, and 10K, followed by the 5K at 7:20 AM. All races start and finish at Tubman-Garrett Park, where participants will be greeted with a lively celebration village, complete with vendors, live music, and refreshments, including two complimentary Michelob Ultras for participants.
This year’s festival is expected to draw 2,500 runners from 47 states and seven countries, making it one of the most anticipated running events in the region.
Running for a cause
Beyond the thrill of the race, the Delaware Running Festival offers an opportunity for participants to support meaningful causes through its Run for a Cause program. Among the benefiting organizations is Delaware College Scholars (DCS), a unique tuition-free college preparatory program designed for high-achieving public-school students from low-income families. DCS helps students navigate the college admissions process and persist through their college years to graduation.
Proceeds from the event’s alcohol sales will benefit The Celtic Star Inc., a charitable organization dedicated to supporting community initiatives.
A festival atmosphere
The post-race party at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park will feature live music by the Isaac Krapf Band, performing a mix of classic hits such as Mr. Brightside by The Killers and Come Together by The Beatles.
