South Carolina running back MarShawn Lloyd entered the transfer portal Dec. 12 leading the Gamecocks in rushing last season. Lloyd announced his commitment back in early January that he will be joining the USC Trojans.

MarShawn rushed for 573 yards and nine touchdowns on 111 carries for the Gamecocks as a true sophomore. Lloyd, who emerged as a receiving threat with 18 receptions for 176 yards and two touchdowns in 2022.

In an article written by Steve Samra from on3.com MarShawn told them that the USC Trojans were on his radar “As soon as I went in the portal,” Lloyd responded. USC was not the first team or only to reachout to Lloyd as he was in the portal. Tennessee was the first team to reach out , but he also had some Big Ten teams like Michigan and Michigan State.

In the end, USC had something nobody else could compete with in reigning Heisman trophy winner Caleb Williams. Lloyd told Samra “Honestly, Caleb told me “Come here now. Let’s go to the league,’ — he said, ‘Let’s win a national championship. Let’s go to the league.’ I was like, ‘Let’s go. I’m all for it.’ It was just a great conversation,”

MarShawn shocked the Gamecocks nation when he announced that he was hitting the transfer portal. Lloyd went on social media and posted a letter thanking his coaches and teammates at South Carolina, but that he was entering the transfer portal. After reading numerous posts and articles it is still unknown why he left the Gamecocks. However we do know why he has chosen USC.
