Michael Thompson packs food donations for DART’s ‘Stuff the Bus’ campaign

DART’s 24th annual ‘Stuff the Bus’ food drive for Thanksgiving will run the second week of November, with seven collecting sites around the state.

The drive has a goal of collecting 20 tons of non-perishable food for Delawareans who need help with food.

It’s slogan is “With  your cans, we can.”

The state’s transit agency places a bus near grocery stores and at Rodney Square so people can drop off food to fill the bus.

The proceeds go to the Food Bank of Delaware, which recently announced it was started its holiday food drive.

Here is where and when the buses can be found:

Monday, Nov. 8: Safeway, 19283 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 9: Walmart, 939 N. DuPont Blvd., Milford, 8 a.m. –  6 p.m. and Safeway, 190 John Hunn Brown Road, Dover, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 10: ShopRite of First State Plaza, 1600 W. Newport Pike, Stanton, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 11: ShopRite of Brandywine Commons, 1300 Rocky Run Parkway, Wilmington, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 12: Rodney Square, Market Street side, Wilmington, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 12: ShopRite of Four Seasons, 700 Plaza Drive, Newark, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Seven radio stations will be broadcasting from the sites, too.

DART asks anyone interested in donating who can’t make it to a bus site to consider giving directly to the Food Bank of Delaware.

‘Stuff the Bus’ has proven such a popular way for people to donate to the Food Bank through DART that the transit authority has begun repeating the event in spring each year.
