“FORE the Love of Theater” tournament returns Sept. 22 with Community, Characters, and a Cause
WILMINGTON, Del. — Golfers and theater lovers alike are invited to swing into fall with The Candlelight Theatre’s 2nd Annual Golf Outing, a fundraiser packed with entertainment, camaraderie—and maybe even a few surprise appearances by familiar stage characters.
Tee time is set for 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22 at Ed Oliver Golf Club (800 N. Dupont Road), where participants will enjoy 18 holes of scramble-format play, food and drinks, contests, and post-round festivities—all while supporting one of Delaware’s most beloved cultural institutions.
The event, themed “FORE the Love of Theater,” is chaired by Maureen Cotellese, Candlelight Theatre’s Development Coordinator, who said the outing is designed to be both inclusive and unforgettable.
“This tournament brings together our supporters in a fun, relaxed way that reflects the spirit of Candlelight,” Cotellese said. “You don’t have to be a pro—just show up ready to have a great time for a great cause.”
Registration is $100 per golfer and includes:
- 18 holes of golf
- Practice range balls
- Lunch and drink tickets
- Contests for longest drive and closest to the pin
- Post-round reception with prizes

More Than Just a Round of Golf
Proceeds benefit The Candlelight Theatre, a nonprofit based in historic Ardentown, which has offered live dinner theater and educational programming since 1969. The theatre has survived Covid-19, increased season ticket sales, completed a successful capital campaign, and recently announced the 2026 Season featuring Annie, Scrooge, Fiddler on the Roof, and the Producers. Now, the theatre is battling the high cost of operations and working to keep the ticket price within reach of all theatre lovers.
“Our mission is to educate, employ, and inspire through live performance,” Terry Healy, President of the Board of Directors, said. “Fundraisers like this help us keep that mission thriving on and off the stage. We are working to keep theatre ticket costs down as our expenses increase. These fund-raising events help us cover the production costs, pay our actors and talented production team, and still keep the theatre affordable for everyone.”
Beyond the golf outing, Candlelight continues to connect the arts with the community through events like the upcoming “Dine & Donate” day at The Crown Tavern on August 27.
Can’t attend the tournament? Sponsorships are available for those who want to support the theater while gaining visibility for their business or honoring a Candlelight Theatre lover.
Whether you’re a scratch golfer or just looking for a good time with a great cause, “FORE the Love of Theater” is a day of fun that helps keep the lights glowing bright at Candlelight.
