Delaware COVID Cases, Hospitalizations Level Off In Last Week

The number of positive COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Delaware has leveled off in the last week.

The seven-day average of new positive cases dropped to 452.7 as of Thursday night, down 14 from last week, according to the Delaware Division of Public Health. The number of hospitalizations remained at 225, the same as last week. Of those, 35 are in critical condition, down one from last week.

The state has seen 133,599 positive cases of COVID-19 and 1,954 deaths. Twelve deaths were reported in the past week.

The Centers for Disease Control says 78.6% of Delawareans ages 18+ have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Among Delawareans 12 and older, 577,315 people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 528,466 Delawareans are fully vaccinated.

There have been 3,768 breakthrough cases of COVID-19, which represents about seven-tenths of 1 percent of vaccinated individuals. Seventy of the reported breakthrough cases identified since vaccinations began involved hospitalizations and 44 of those people died.

The state’s random testing of positive cases continues to show that virtually all the cases that can be typed are the Delta variant.
