So there remains just one, one team left that is still undefeated as we reach week 6 of baseball. The No. 1 Sussex Central Golden Knights  now 12-0 on the season had two wins last week over then No. 4 Cape Henlopen and Indian River. Isaiah Kelley and Joaquin Rodriguez remain undefeated while Nate Burroughs continue to hit for the Golden Knights. They have plenty of other players that fill the boxscore, but those are just a few of the names.

No. 2 William Penn had a tough week suffering two losses to Salesianum and Odessa. We also saw last week’s No. 4 Cape Henlopen, No. 5 DMA,  and No. 6 Concord suffer losses as well. This week’s top 10 will look a little different then last week with so many shake ups after last week’s games.

Let’s look at this week top 10

No. 1 Sussex Central Golden Knights (12-0) had two wins last week over then No. 4 Cape Henlopen and Indian River. Isaiah Kelley and Joaquin Rodriguez remain undefeated while Nate Burroughs continue to hit for the Golden Knights. Right now they are the most complete team in the state. They have pitching, defense, and offense and when you check the box scores it shows. They will travel to play Caesar Rodney (CR) on Tuesday, then on Thursday they will host No. 2 Sussex Tech for a 1 versus 2 matchup.

No. 2 Sussex Tech Ravens (11-1) won three games last week. On Tuesday they won on a walk off hit at Frawley stadium defeating CR, then Laurel, and St Geoge’s over the weekend. Tech has still yet to lose to an instate opponent. Their loss is to Queen Anne’s out of Maryland. This week they travel for both games. On Tuesday they travel to Milford, then travel to Central to plays 1 versus 2. If you can get to Sports at the Beach on Thursday the game is at 6:30pm.

No. 3 Cape Henlopen (11-2) fell to No. 1 Central on Tuesday last week, but rebounded with a win over Lake Forest. Cape’s other loss to now No. 2 Sussex Tech. Cape’s losses have been to the top two teams in the state. They are right there in a tough Henlopen North Conference. Cape has three games this week starting on Tuesday as they travel to Smyrna, then they are home on Thursday versus Polytech, then they travel to Claymont on Saturday to play Salesianum. Tough week of baseball for the Vikings.

No. 4  Caesar Rodney (CR) (9-3) went 2-1 last week their loss came to No. 2 Tech, and they defeated Sussex Academy and No. 5 DMA Their other two losses were to No. 1 Cape and a tough out of state opponent Queen Annes (MD). The Riders will face No. 1 Central on Tuesday and Smyrna on Thursday who had a big win last week at Frawley over Caravel

No. 5 William Penn Colonials (7-2) had a tough week last week. They lost twice to Salesianum and then to Odessa, but rebounded with a win over Appo. The Colonials even with the two losses stay in the top ten because of the head to head victories of teams below them right now. Penn has another tough week ahead of them this week as they travel to Middletown Tuesday, then host Wilmington Charter Thursday, and then travel to No. 1 Central on Saturday. Penn will need to win both early games to stay in the top 10.

No. 6 Delaware Military Seahawks (9-2) (DMA) suffered their second loss last week to now No. 4 CR in a 1-0 loss. They had two wins last week over FSMA, and Red Lion. DMA losses have come to ranked teams above them which keeps them in the top ten this week. DMA plays Archmere twice this week; they host on Tuesday, then travel to Archmere on Thursday. It’s hard to beat a team twice so let’s see how these games play out. They also play Elkton (MD) on Saturday.

No. 7 The Salesianum Sals (7-3) reeled off six straight wins after starting the season 1-3. All of their losses were to ranked teams at the time they lost. Caravel, No. 1 Central and St Georges. Then last week they handed then No. 2 Penn. They have a tough week of baseball ahead of them. They are at No. 8 Saint Mark’s on Tuesday, then host No. 3 Cape Henlopenon Saturday. Let see if the Sals can keep it rolling

No. 8 The Saint Marks Spartans (10-3)  find themselves in the same spot as the Sals. They have 3 losses, all to once ranked opponents Achmere, Penn, and Conrad. The Conrad loss was to a Division pitcher in Brady Wardell who is coming back from an injury and they have found a groove and won 6 straight. The Spartans face No. 7 Salesianum on Wednesday and then travel to St Georges on Saturday.

No. 9 The Sanford Warriors (11-1) have won 7 straight games since their loss to Brandywine. Problem is they really haven’t played many top teams. This week they will face off with No. 10 Concord on Thursday. That will be their second top ten opponent of the season. They have won the games they were supposed to win that is why they stay in the top ten.

No. 10 Concord Raiders (11-1) was on a roll; they had a win over a ranked Archmere team, then a win over a tough conference game versus Brandywine. However they suffered a loss to an unranked Wilmington Charter 9-1. Concord has 3 games this week they defeated Tower Hill 8-1, they travel to Glasgow on Tuesday then they play No. 9 Sanford on Thursday.

As the season plays on it becomes harder and harder to rank the top ten teams. However that means that season has been super competitive. Sussex Central stands out as the No. 1 team right now, but we have seen the No. 1 teams fall this season. Get out to see some of these top ten plays as the season unwinds.
