The possibility of bad weather is delaying the overnight closure of Interstate 95 southbound in Wilmington, to install concrete barriers and striping, the Delaware Department of Transportation announced today.

There’s a hazardous weather outlook in New Castle County tonight and Thursday morning, with a 90% chance of precipitation and up to 4 inches of snow. The National Weather Service is calling for snow, freezing rain and/or sleet every day for the next six days.

The overnight closure of I-95 is part of the prep work for Restore the Corridor, a three-year plan to improve the highway and its associated ramps and bridges in the city.

DelDOT’s new schedule calls for the work to begin Feb. 19 on I-95 between Exit 6 (Martin Luther King Boulevard) and the I-495 junction.
