American Airlines on Wednesday unveiled a luxury tarmac-to-tarmac bus service from Wilmington Airport to the Philadelphia airport.
American’s deal with the Landline Co. makes the airline the first to offer service in all 50 states and allows passengers to clear Transportation Security Administration in little ole Wilmington, bypassing the lines in Philly.
The premium motorcoach service will begin Oct. 7. Tickets are now available at aa.com or through American’s mobile app for one-stop connections to more than 100 destinations.
Passengers must enter Wilmington Airport (ILG) as the flight origin and select the destination (i.e. MIA) as the endpoint, just like a flight itinerary.
The motorcoach will make it possible for American passengers to avoid the drive to the Philadelphia Airport, known as PHL. They will be able to park at Wilmington Airport, check their luggage to their final destination, and clear TSA security prior to boarding the motorcoach to PHL on the airside of the terminal.
At the Philadelphia airport‘s Terminal F, customers will then disembark at the gate and proceed to their next gate to continue their connecting flight.
On return to Philly, any checked luggage will be transferred automatically to the motorcoach and passengers will pick up their bags at Wilmington Airport.
American’s innovative service
American and Landline will start the motorcoach service with six round trips a day between Wilmington and Philadelphia.
The luxury motorcoaches are handicapped accessible and feature 35 premium leather seats in a 2 by 1 seating configuration. Passengers will have free WiFi and in-seat power at every seat, access to an onboard lavatory and can earn or redeem AAdvantage miles for the Landline “flights.”
“The American Airlines/Landline service allows passengers to travel with peace of mind knowing their connections are protected with American Airlines. Riding with Landline eliminates the hassle of trying to find a ride or driving and parking at PHL,” says Hannah Tamura, Landline spokesperson. “The ability to clear TSA security at ILG instead of waiting in unpredictable security lines at PHL is added benefit.”

“We’re thrilled that the American Airlines’ Landline connection service has been added to the menu of customer offerings at ILG,” said Thomas J. Cook, executive director of the Delaware River and Bay Authority, which oversee the airport.
“At Wilmington Airport – ILG, we pride ourselves in offering a fast, affordable, smooth and convenient hometown airport experience for our customers,” he said.
