96 students named Secretary of Education Scholars for Class of 2025

This year’s class of Secretary of Education Scholars included 96 of the state’s brightest young minds.

Secretary of Education Cindy Marten, alongside Governor Matt Meyer and other state leaders, celebrated 96 exceptional public school students from the Class of 2025 during a special dinner in Dover this week.

These students were honored as Secretary of Education Scholars, a prestigious recognition given to those who have shown excellence both inside and outside the classroom.

Criteria for Secretary of Education Scholars

“These students are leaders in and out of the classroom,” Marten said. “They are excelling — often in college-level courses — while leading school clubs, musical ensembles, sports teams and community service projects. They balance their studies while working part-time and volunteering in their communities. I was inspired by each and every one of them last night. I especially loved hearing their self-reflections on what inspired their success, which often pointed to the family members, educators and peers who supported them.”

The Secretary of Education Scholars were recognized for their dedication, leadership, and commitment to their education and communities.

Many of the students shared personal reflections on what inspired their success, often citing the unwavering support of family members, educators, and peers.

In addition to the celebration dinner, the scholars are now being showcased on a dedicated website, where their achievements are highlighted through photographs, nomination statements from their principals, and personal narratives from the students themselves.

This annual recognition program, which has been honoring students since 1984, selects scholars based on their academic excellence, leadership within their schools, and contributions to their communities.

The number of scholars chosen from each school is determined by enrollment, with principals nominating the students who best embody these qualities.

The Class of 2025’s Secretary of Education Scholars represent a bright future for the state, reflecting the value of hard work, community involvement, and academic perseverance.
