A loud and popular party on Monday in an apartment off Newark’s Main Street has led to three residents being charged with allowing loud music and 36 people being charged for violating city limits on gatherings during the pandemic, police said today.
Police were called to the apartment, in the unit block of Center Street, about 11:45 p.m. Monday to investigate a report of loud noise.
Officers charged three residents of the apartment with allowing loud music to be played, in violation of a city ordinance. And 36 people at the apartment were charged with violating the city’s Unlawful Social Gathering ordinance, which prohibits more than ten people who do not reside together from gathering indoors at a private residence during the COVID-19 pandemic.
All were issued summonses and released at the scene without incident.
In one night in October, the city cited 63 people for violating the gathering ordinance.
