The year has been grim, which may explain why seasonal decorations have been flying off the shelves. A little tinsel and some flashing lights can go a long way to lift the mood. So can some festive libations. Check out these special restaurant promotions that will put you in the holiday spirit.

Klondike Kate’s Sleigh Bar

Leave the Grinch by the door when you enter this Newark restaurant, whose atmosphere rivals the North Pole for the X-mas factor. The holiday promotion was limited to the first floor in 2019, but this year, it expanded to the second due to the state’s restrictions on capacity.

“A lot of people have come out,” said owner Gianmarco Martuscelli. “We have a waitlist. I’ve gotten so many texts from people thanking me for doing it because it’s brightened up their day — that’s been the greatest thing about it.”

The concept has its own Facebook page, logo and attitude — a neon sign in the dining room reads: “Sleigh All Day.” Santa is often hanging out, and events include viewings of such movies as “The Nightmare Before Christmas” on Dec. 22.

Go to klondikekates.com or facebook.com/thesleighbar for more information.

Blitzen

This holiday-themed popup is another repeat performer. The highly stylized “den,” created by Wilmington’s Dallas Shaw, is in the space that once housed Pochi, a Chilean restaurant.

The drink menu is as creative as the décor. Consider Santa’s Cough Syrup: bourbon, cranberry simple syrup, bitters and cranberries garnished with an orange slice.

There is food, but it’s more like noshes. Swedish meatballs, trail mix and build-your-own s’mores may keep Rudolph longing for more.

The bar stays open through Dec. 24. Go to blitzenthebar.com.

Cookies & Cocktails

Down south, all 12 SoDel Concepts restaurants are selling holiday-themed cocktails and boxes of treats. (You can order cocktails to go).

“Our guests can enjoy the cookies and cocktails in our dining rooms or their homes. Or they can give them to friends,” said SoDel Concepts president Scott Kammerer in a press release. “People should be extra kind to others and themselves this holiday season.”

Each box contains 12 to 14 treats, including cookies, nut and fruit bars, brownies and blondies. The price is $15. Large boxes and platters are also available. Cocktails include:

  • The Blitzen ($14) at Bluecoast Seafood Grill + Raw Bar in Rehoboth, a bend of coconut milk, Cruzan Rum, Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey, creme de cacao and a splash of coffee. (Only dine-in guests receive a glass with a salted caramel rim.)
  • The Holiday-Spiked Tini ($14) at The Clubhouse at Baywood, made with Lewes Dairy Eggnog, Captain Morgan, Cruzan Rum, Kahlua and a cinnamon-sugar rim.
  • Spiced Cranberry Margarita ($10) at Matt’s Fish Camp in Lewes, a mix of Hornitos Tequila, cranberry, cinnamon simple syrup and fresh lime juice.
