Part of I-295 southbound will be closed for two nights this week to allow for bridges to be demolished, the Delaware Department of Transportation announced today.
The work on the bridges that used to carry Route 141 over I-95 will also bring I-95 southbound down to one lane both nights.
The I-95 restriction is planned to run from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Closure of I-295 between Route 13 and I-495 is planned from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The detour for traffic on southbound on I-295, north of the Route 13 interchange, will take the ramp to Route 13 southbound, take the ramp to Route 141 northbound and continue north along Route 141 to access the ramps to either I-95 northbound or southbound.
Traffic on I-295 southbound at the ramp to I-495 northbound will take the ramp to I-495 northbound and take the ramp to Terminal Avenue, turn left onto Terminal Avenue, take the ramp to I-495 southbound and continue straight to I-95 southbound.
Three weeks of prep work for the demolition is scheduled to end Friday. The prep work was scedhuled to close I-95 southbound lanes in the area from 8 p.m. to 6 p.m. since Oct. 13, with two ramps – northbound Route 141 to southbound I-95 and southbound I-95 to southbound Route 141 – sometimes closed as well.
The Delaware Department of Transportation promises work on the state’s busiest interchange to be done by spring, with work on Route 141 closer to New Castle stretching into 2022.
