Wilmington and New Castle County residents have several locations to choose from this week to be tested for COVID-19.

These sites use saliva and will require the person being tested to swab his or her own mouth, return the swab to the tube and seal it.

Both drive-up and walk-up appointments are available.

All the test sites save some testing kits for people who do not have appointments.

Even if the site asks you to register online and says that it’s full, you should go if you want a test, say health officials. It is rare that they have had to turn people away, they say.

At the site, your visit will start with registering online via your phone at a web address that organizers will give you online. You will be asked for your name, address, email address, phone number and birth date.

That registration will give you a code that will follow your sample throughout the process.

The results of your test will be emailed to you. If you don’t get it within the time you expect to, check your spam folders, health officials say. If you do not have an email, someone will call you, but that process may take longer.

If you do not have a smart phone, one of the organizations will help register you.

The lines move quickly. On Saturday morning at Seeds of Greatness Church in Bear, the drive-through testing was set to start at 11 a.m. but started early. People who were waiting in line at 10:40 were driving away by 11:03 a.m. with the test finished.
