TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

Dear Friends,

We launched Town Square Delaware nine years ago because we thought then – and believe even more fervently now – there was a gaping need for locally-owned, community-focused media.

After all, a community is bound together by its shared stories – stories about the people, businesses, organizations and events that define a place and make it unique. This kind of news coverage was – and still is – in far too short of supply.

You are all familiar with the challenges that have crushed local media across the country. In Delaware, while there are certainly many outstanding reporters, those trends and cutbacks have clearly impacted our hometown options. It’s a tough business!

Yet with your support, we have been able to grow and thrive, by (we hope) delivering compelling, meaningful content to you, and (we know) connecting a fantastic, engaged audience with the best advertising partners in the world.  This year has been the strongest ever for TSD.

As a mom and partially pop shop, we always expected that once TSD achieved a certain scale, ensuring momentum and the next level of growth would require a partner; a partner with the resources to invest in, nurture and expand a robust business.

We have found such a partner in Chris Kenny and Delaware LIVE. Today we are delighted to announce that TSD has been acquired by Chris and his Delaware Live team.

Chris and his family’s deep commitment to Delaware are well known.  Chris and Bryan Shupe, a state legislator and founder of another successful community-focused publication, MilfordLive.com, launched Delaware LIVE earlier this month as “a locally-owned, statewide news media company launched in an effort to combat the national takeover of Delaware news.” Like TSD, Delaware LIVE is free for readers and 100-percent focused on reporting the local stories that national media companies won’t or can’t cover.

Delaware Live’s vision for a locally-owned, statewide media business is exciting, and joining those efforts is clearly the right move for the long-term sustainability of TSD’s mission.

TownSquareDelaware.com will continue but it will also evolve and improve as a part of the Delaware LIVE family. A press release will be issued Monday with more details about this game-changing collaboration.

Meanwhile, thank you for caring so much about our community and for all your encouragement and support – cranking out the content for this puppy and learning so much along the way has been a pretty incredible, memorable experience to say the least.  Onward!

With gratitude,

Christy and Michael Fleming
