Four young men have been arrested and charged with Robbery in the First Degree in conjunction with the home invasion that took place in the early morning hours on Monday, April 13.

Newark Police at that time reported that four masked men forced their way into a Newark home early yesterday morning, one of them pistol-whipping three residents of the home with a firearm then fleeing with stolen property.

 

The residence, on New London Road (up the street from the Deer Park), was occupied by five men between the ages of 18 and 22, who told officers they had spotted a dark-colored sedan in their driveway.

That apparently prompted one of the residents to step outside to see what was going on. The four men inside the vehicle stepped out of the car and allegedly stormed into the house and pistol-whipped some of the residents before stealing money and other items.

Using information from witness interviews, surveillance video and other sources, Newark Police detectives identified a possible suspect vehicle leaving the scene.  Additional suspect information was also developed during the investigation.

 

The suspects have been identified as:

  • Aaron Locke, 20, of Marydel, DE
  • Cameron Gordon, 20, of Smyrna, DE
  • Nicholas Lane, 19, of Felton, DE
  • Maurice Wilson, 19, of Felton, DE

On April 18, 2020, a search warrant was executed at an apartment in Newark where Locke was known to reside.  In addition, the suspect vehicle, used by Locke, and a vehicle used by Lane were also searched.  During the execution of the search warrants, items connected to the robbery were located.  All four suspects were present at the Newark apartment during the search and were taken into custody without incident.

The suspects were transported to Newark Police headquarters where they were charged with the following offenses:

  • Robbery First Degree (4 counts)
  • Home Invasion Burglary First Degree
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Assault Third Degree (3 counts)
  • Theft Under $1500

All of the defendants appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video.  Gordon was ordered to be held in default of $55,210 secured bail.  The three other defendants were each released on $52,000 unsecured bail.  Gordon was turned over to the custody of the Howard R Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
