Attention all Wilmington vegans who still crave the taste of a beef sandwich: you are in luck.
Even though Capriotti’s sandwich shop on Union Street introduced the Impossible Cheesesteak only about a month ago, the new item has already become a hit.
The Impossible Cheesesteak is a plant-based sandwich that has sparked interest among many types of foodies. The new addition allows Capriotti’s to cater to a larger crowd of customers, while also retaining the quality of a beef cheesesteak.
For instance, my vegan sister can now go to Capriotti’s to get a sandwich. Veganism has become progressively more popular over the 21st Century, seeing a sharp surge in people adopting diets void of meat, dairy, and fish.
While ordering the Impossible Cheesesteak may not be perceived as cool from a high-schooler perspective, it is clear that Capriotti’s has made an innovative decision that clearly strikes a chord with a lot of people.
I went to Capriotti’s a few weeks ago to give it a try, and can confirm that the sandwich is up to par with all the buzz surrounding it.
Since I am primarily dairy-free, I ordered a sandwich with just Impossible Meat and peppers. Even with the Impossible Meat being more of a focal point, I still was very impressed.
While ordering the sandwich, I talked to one of the cooks. He said the Impossible Cheesesteak is one of the most popular items on the menu. (Funny enough, they think the cheese is a big part of the sandwich’s appeal.)
Not only is the Impossible Cheesesteak delicious, but it is also hard to distinguish from its beef counterpart.
While the Impossible Beef is a bit thinner in texture, the sandwich still provides a mouthwatering taste comparable to a normal beef sandwich.
In addition to testing out the Impossible Cheesesteak, I also treated myself to my favorite sandwich from Capriottis, the famous Turkey Bobbie. Although I may be a little biased with my love for that legendary Thanksgiving on a roll sandwich, the Impossible Cheesesteak did not pale in comparison.
The innovative and high-quality sandwiches are not the only thing that makes Capriotti’s appealing. The unpretentious and unique ambiance also makes Capriotti’s on Union Street a cool place to check out.
Anyone opting for a plant-based diet, but still wanting to enjoy the taste of a good cheesesteak, Capriotti’s is definitely the place to go.
