TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

Delaware’s only Trader Joe’s opened 17 years ago at the Brandywine Town Center

Trader Joe’s has its eye on a second Delaware location, apparently in the former Saks Off 5th location in the Christiana Fashion Center.

It would be the popular national chain’s first new store in the state since their flagship Delaware location opened off of Concord Pike in north Wilmington.

The News Journal/Delawareonline first reported the news, having identified the plans through a review of New Castle County permits.

Officials with the owner of the Christiana Fashion Center and Trader Joe’s were both tight-lipped on the news, but local fans of the Monrovia, California-based chain of “fresh format” grocery stores were buzzing about the news on social media.

No details are available on when the new store might open. Trader Joe’s currently has 503 stores in 42 states.

Line now forms outside of Trader Joe’s due to coronavirus and social distancing
