Opening Night at Blitzen: Delaware’s First Holiday Pop Up Bar

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, and now you’re about to meet Blitzen. He may not be the most famous reindeer, but he’s certainly having a moment in downtown Wilmington. Jolly patrons packed in the doors of the new holiday themed bar on opening night. 

Depending on where you stand on decorating for the holidays before or after thanksgiving, you might love or hate Blitzen, Delaware’s first holiday pop up bar

Holiday bars like Philadelphia’s Tinsel have become a regular occurrence in larger cities, and now thanks to the team at Stitch House Brewery, the string light covered delight has made its way to Delaware. According to Head Elf and bartender Kyle McLaughlin, the bar went from an idea to opening day in just a few weeks. 
However, it’s not your typical tacky decoration covered holiday bar thanks to designer Dallas Shaw. It’s chic and feels like a comfortable ski lounge, with antler chandeliers, lots of plaid, a dark palette and warm brick and wood accents.
The ceiling is fully covered in various greens and string lights, all in white of course, to further the overall upscale vibe. Multiple cozy corners include “Blitzen’s Living Room” complete with a fireplace, a custom painting of the reindeer himself, Christmas trees and leather club chairs. 
Blitzen offers a variety of imaginative holiday cocktails like “Moose Milk,” which comes garnished with a cookie. Plus warm cocktails such as spiced rum & hot cider, peppermint schnapps with hot cocoa and mulled wine.
Bar snacks are provided by sister restaurant and next door neighbor Faire Market & Cafe. Delicious options include Pork Belly Poutine with pork lardon and cheese curds and a Holidaze Sandwich with turkey, stuffing, house-made cranberry sauce and baconaise.
Maybe decorating for the holidays before thanksgiving isn’t so bad after all. Blitzen is located at 220 W 9th Street Wilmington, Delaware 19801.
