In 2015, a few short months after former Attorney General Beau Biden passed away, the Biden family held the first fundraiser at Wilmington Country Club to support the foundation started in Beau’s name.
Four years later the Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children is a national organization, training organizations working with children to recognize the signs of child sexual abuse and report abuse they suspect is happening. The foundation also teaches children to interrupt bullying and the path to good digital citizenship.
Their Shield of Protection program has created child protection policies for some 50 youth-serving organizations across more than a dozen states, including Special Olympics International, Girls on the Run, and in partnership with local independent schools.
In the fall of 2017, former President Barak Obama joined the Bidens for a special surprise appearance at the annual Beau Biden fundraiser.
Jill and Joe Biden will again join friends and supporters at this year’s fundraiser at Wilmington Country Club on Monday, September 23rd. The event includes a cocktail reception and silent auction, and Joe Biden will offer remarks.
Renamed the Child Protection Classic, the events of the day include a golf outing and a round-robin tennis tournament. “Funds raised at Monday’s event allow us to provide critical abuse prevention training to youth-serving organizations that they wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise,” said the Foundation’s Executive Director Patricia Dailey Lewis, Esq.
One of the highlights of the event is a silent auction which features experiential items like VIP passes to a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show or The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, autographed sports memorabilia, getaways, and more.
Tickets to the Foundation’s Child Protection Classic Cocktail Reception & Silent Auction are available at www.BeauBidenFoundation.org/2019Reception. Doors open at 5:00 pm, with a brief speaking program beginning at 5:30 pm.
Mark your calendars to attend a special screening of Screenagers ~ Growing up in the digital age on October 22nd, 6:30 pm at The Independence School.
