BBC Marks 20 Years as Greenville’s ‘Go To’ Spot

With a welcoming new look, a fresh coat of paint and an updated menu, Greenville’s BBC Tavern and Grill is set to officially celebrate 20 years making diners and revelers happy with an ‘open house’ party this Friday night.

BBC impresario Dave Dietz admits he is taking a little license with the anniversary – he’s clocked ten at the current 4019 Kennett Pike location and added that to the ten his original Brandywine Brewing Company spent around the corner in the current location of Pizza by Elizabeth’s – but who’s going to argue with a party featuring live music, and free tee shirts for the first 200 people.

Dietz said the shindig will kick off at 5 pm, and will feature buck-a-shuck oysters, jumbo shrimp cocktail, blue crab claws, scallop ceviche, and lobster slider rolls from George and Sons of Hockessin.

As first reported by TSD, BBC just underwent renovations that include a new front entrance with sliding glass doors, fire pits on the patio and a new 640-foot awning that will cover the entire patio.  The upgrades also include larger, eighty-inch television screens, new light fixtures and refinished tables inside.

The awning, which will also allow year-round eating outdoors, was supposed to be ready in time for the anniversary fete, but delays in construction have pushed that out a couple of weeks.

Dietz left his former location when the lease was not renewed at the end of 2004 because the former Greenville Shopping Center landlord was then looking to secure a grocery store chain for that space. 

 

That never occurred. So after an interregnum where Dietz dabbled in other restaurant ventures and various intellectual and ascetic pursuits, he landed the newly abridged “BBC” in the site formerly inhabited by Elizabeths — a culinary trading places, as it were. 

New menu items include shareable plates with seared scallops with roasted tri-colored cauliflower; cheddar grits and a chipotle honey drizzle; roasted seasonal vegetables; artisanal cheese boards; homemade meatballs with fresh baked ricotta and grilled focaccia. But Dietz ensures customers that fan faves such as JamJoe’s Nachos will continue to treat them right-o.
