TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

Authentic DMV-issued Delaware State Fair Centennial License Plates will be auctioned on Saturday

When motoring about the First State, do you look longingly at the elegant, power-packed low-digit (often) black tags usually catching a ride on a snazzy vehicle?

Well, you have a chance to join Delaware driving’s upper echelon, as a limited edition of single and double-digit Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV)-issued license plates are coming on the market. The plates are being offered in recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the State Fair, and come with a commemorative logo. If interested, you’ll need to get your finances in order quickly, because the new plates – numbers 6 through 100 – are being auctioned this Saturday, January 12 at the State Fair exhibit hall in Harrington.

Wilson Auctions will conduct the sale, with doors opening at 2:00 pm and the auction starting at 3:00. DMV will be on-site to register your new tag, just be sure to bring your vehicle registration card. If you’re not ready to tag a car, acquired tags can be put in retention by DMV for later affixing. Importantly, free hot dogs and hamburgers will be served and of course, beer and bar service is available (but not recommended for drivers).

Giddyup!
